Dear colleague(s),
As part of the initiatives to improve academic performance in our old school, IBGS, we are proud to present a SCHOLARSHIP/ADOPT A CHILD scheme as developed by our Academic Performance and Improvement Committee, APIC.
This scheme has been tested and found effective and result driven by the Immediate Past President of the association, Mr. Olumide Onadipe. In his model, he adopted three SS1 students three years ago. The three students had written the NECO Exams and performed creditably.
The scheme has three components:
- A scholarship of N50,000(minimum) per year per student.
- A school mentor (volunteer teacher)
- The sponsor (who is now the surrogate parent).
The scheme will be operated by the Academic Performance and Improvement committee and there will be key responsibility loci:
- The Scholar must maintain scholarship abilities, good behaviour and make periodic report to the mentor and sponsor.
- The mentor is expected to act as the school parent taking active interest in the scholar and regular review of academic and moral performance of the scholar and acting as a liaison between the sponsor and the student.
- The sponsor will provide fund for the adopted students during the agreed years of adoption and to maintain active interest in the performance of the student.
- IBGSOSA, through APIC will monitor the entire scheme and report periodically to EXCO for further assessment.
We hereby invite all members of the old student’s association, their friends, community groups and charitable individuals to adopt this scheme in the best interest of our old school and the current students. are now invited to adopt and sponsor a student.
We will create a pool of qualified students to be adopted through a formal screening process. Further information on the qualifications is attached with this letter.
